There are three possible installation directions, and the mounting
angle must be true within 5* from the horizontal.

 Ambient temperature
 -------------------
The operating temperature range of the drive is specified at a dis-
tance of 3 cm from the drive.

Make shure to maintain the base temperature range of DE from 5*C to
 58*C.

 Cable requirements
 ------------------
A characteristic impedance of 100 10% is recommended for the un-
shielded twisted-pair ribbon cable. Characteristic impedance greater
than 90 is preferred for the shielded cable. A minimum conductor
size of 28 AWG shall be employed. It is recommended that the shielded
cable be uses for connection outside the system cabinet.

To minimize discontinuities and signal refelections, cables of dif-
ferent impedance should not be used on the same bus. The maximum
cable length is 6m. A cable length of 1m or more is recommended be-
 tween SCSI devices.

 Multi-drive connections
 -----------------------
Host systems, IDDs, and other SCSI controllers can be connected
(daisy-chained) to SCSI provided that the total number of SCSI
devices connected does not exeed eigth.

 Terminator
 ----------
Terminator is already installed in IDD at shipment. Remove the ter-
minator if the IDD is not installed at beginning or ending position
 of SCSI cable.

 External LED Connector
 -----------------------
The user can connect the external LED to the drive if necessary. The
external LED is connected to CN6 on the PCA.

 AC line noise
 -------------
To eliminate AC line noise, a noise filter should be incorporated in
the AC input terminal of the drvie power supply.
Attenuation characteristics: 40dB or greater at 10MHz
 Circuit configuration: T type

 24KB data buffer
 -----------------
To improve system throughput, the IDD contains a 24KB ring buffer.

 SCSI bus configuration
 ----------------------
Up to eight SCSI devices can be connected to the SCSI bus, with any
combination of the SCSI devices that operate as initiator and that
 operate as target.

Each SCSI device on the bus has its own unique address (SCSI-ID: #n).
For input/output operation, a peripheral device attached to the SCSI
bus that operates as target is addressed in unit called as logical
unit. A unique address (LUN: logical unit number) is assigned for
 each logical unit.

 Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
 ---------------------------------
The estimated MTBF of the IDD during its life time is 50.000 hours.

Failure of the equipment means failure that requires repairs, adjust-
ments or replacements. Mishandling by the operator, failures due to
bad environmental conditions, power trouble, controller trouble,
cable failures or other failures not caused by the equipment are not
 included.

 Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
 --------------------------
MTTR is the average time taken ba a well-trined service mechanic to
diagnose and repair a drive malfunction. The drive is designed for a
MTTR of 30 minutes or less.

 Service life
 ------------
Overhaul of the drive is not required for the first five years or the
 first 20.000 hours.

 Data security at power failure
 ------------------------------
Integrity of the data on the disk is guaranteed against all forms of
DC power failure except a power failure during a write operation.

Tips & Hints about ICP controllers and other peripherals
 ========================================================

Tagged queues and Fujitsu M 26xx harddisks
 ------------------------------------------
Fujitsu Harddisks of the M26XX series do not support the SCSI-II
feature tagged queues. You should disable this feature in the
initialize disks menue of the GDTSetup program. An inquiry command
shows, that the harddisk supports tagged queues (this is why you can
enable it in the GDTSetup) but this is not true as stated by Fujitsu
 Germany.
